Array-based: With most storage systems that leverage asynchronous replication an RPO of 10 or 15 minutes can be configured.
vSphere Replication (VR): Minimum RPO that can be configured in all scenarios is 15 minutes. An RPO of 5 minutes can be configured only when the target and the source site use VMFS 6.0, VMFS 5.x, NFS 4.1, NFS 3, VVOL, or vSAN 6.2 Update 3 storage and later. Even if the source and target sites use different datastore types the 5 minute RPO setting can be used.
The 5 minute RPO can be applied to a maximum of 100 VMs on VMFS 6.0, VMFS 5.x, NFS 4.1, NFS 3, and vSAN 6.2 Update 3 storage and later. The maximum for VVOL datastore is 50 VMs.
An RPO lower than 15 minutes is not supported when the OS quiescing option is leveraged.
