Dell EMC VxRail comes bundled with Dell EMCs RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines (RPVM). RPVM is optimized for vSAN environments. Virtual RecoverPoint Appliances (vRPAs) need to be deployed on top of vSphere. A single vRPA cluster can protect up to 1,000 VMs using up to 256 consistency groups.

Dell EMC RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines (RPVM) v5.2.2 supports both vSphere 6.7 U2 and vSAN 6.7 U2, as well as replicating to and from stretched vSAN cluster configurations.

RecoverPoint for VMs (RPVM) can co-exist with VMwares free-of-charge Virtual Replication (VR), as long as each solution protects different virtual machines.

VMware vSAN does not have any remote replication capabilities of its own. Stretched Clustering with synchronous replication is the exception.
