Block storage acts as one or more targets for client Windows or Linux operating systems running on a bare metal server or as guest VMs using iSCSI initiators from within the client operating systems.

ABS does not require multipath I/O (MPIO) configuration on the client but it is compatible with clients that are currently using or configured with MPIO.
