Virtualization Comparison – Hypervisors & Management

The journey started during VMworld 2014 in one of Barcelona pubs, where I met the WhatMatrix core team and we discussed our common virtualization hobby … since then I have taken ownership of the Virtualization comparison and published it on the new community website.

Comparisons on WhatMatrix are handled by category consultants.  Virtualization is a broad area and we are always looking for additional input and expansions. Here are the Vendors that we currently cover (with the respective team owners in brackets):

\

  • VMware vSphere (Roman Macek)
  • Microsoft Hyper-V (Roman Macek)
  • Citrix XenServer (Gica Livada)
  • VirtualBridges (Georgi Lukov)
  • RedHat RHEV (Peer Reviewed)
  • IBM PowerVM (Peer Reviewed)
  • Oracle VM (Peer Reviewed)

The Plan for the future is to include “every” vendor that has a hypervisor product on the market.

Currently we are looking for consultants in the community who are interested in (and can manage) Unix/Linux based comparisons. You’d be acting (and listed) as official “vendor consultant” for this area. If you are interested just let me know.

In the past we have cloud technologies as part of the hypervisor section, this is now being separated out in to its own category.

Another area we want to integrate are the (currently very popular) Container technologies. There are 3 vendors to start with and we want to handle this as separate comparison. Again, if you are interested just let me know. We’d be glad to welcome you in our community!

  • Docker
  • Microsoft Hyper-V Containers
  • VMware Integrated Containers

Enough talk … feel free to check our latest progress here:
